Green beans are a rounded shape pod about 10 to 15cms in length and 1cm diameter. Beans are served as a vegetable side once they have been either boiled or steamed. To prepare beans, trim the stems and wash prior to cooking. Beans should be lightly cooked (preferably steamed) to retain flavour and nutritional benefits.
Green beans are an excellent source of folate and fibre, as well as being a good source of iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, thiamin and vitamin B6.
